It is not the list.  It is only the writing of one thinking woman interested
in upholding Mary Baker Eddy's work and instruction.  However, if
it pleases the hostess of the list, I will be willing to have my name
removed.  I have enjoyed the honest communication I have always
found here, and am disappointed that a thoughtful response to what
I have written appears not to be forthcoming.

Sometimes the older articles communicate the best
reply.  The following is currently making the rounds.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SENTINEL
September 5, 1903 Vol. VI., No. 1.
Editorial.
                                 Preserving our Integrity.
ANXIETY to win the approval of the world may tempt us, perhaps
unconsciously, to color our statements to suit our auditors and to make
concessions from the absolute line of Science. Our Leader vanquished
this temptation in the early days of her work, and her declaration,
"The author has not compromised conscience to suit the general drift of
thought, but bluntly and honestly given the text of Truth" (Science and
Health, Pref. x.), is an encouragement to her followers to be equally
steadfast in this regard.
We must withstand the temptation to make our presentation of Christian Science
so much in line with our friends' preconceived views of God, man, and the
universe as not to antagonize them, and we shall be encouraged in this endeavor
if we reflect that the views we hesitate to disturb have prevailed for ages, and
that the solution of the problems to which they apply has engaged the thought of
mankind for centuries, without any appreciable diminution of the horrors of sin,
sickness, and death.
To be immune to this temptation we must realize that Christian Science is an
exact Science, and that it cannot be stated except in terms of exactness; also
that every compromise is a departure from Principle. We may become more
popular by such methods, but popularity gained in this manner is at the expense
of a true sense of Christian Science and must inevitably lead to uncertainty as to
its teachings.
If humanity's concept of God and man's relation to him, during the ages
preceding the advent of Jesus, had been correct, and his teachings had been in
accord therewith, he would not have met with opposition, nor would he have been
persecuted. The criticism of Jesus' doctrine and the opposition which
culminated in the crucifixion would not have been manifested had he trimmed his
sails to meet the theological breezes of the day. He would have been saved the hardship
of persecution, but the world would have been without Christianity.
Without doubt there are many who would call themselves
Christian Scientists if permitted to alter the platform of Christian Science to
conform to their opinion; but to give way to their desires would not make
Christian Scientists of them, nor would it bring the world nearer to salvation.
If the world's opinion is that Christian Scientists are narrow because they
conform strictly to the rules of what they have proved to be an exact Science,
they will bear this opinion rather than adulterate Christian Science. M.

Actually, one could argue that it is the King James translation that is the unorthodox one in this case.  See below for how several different versions translate that particular verse. Newer translations (possibly except for New KJV and Modern KJV) tend to reflect the latest scholarship to get closer to the original meaning of the Hebrew texts.  NKJV and MKJV use more modern language, but tend to preserve most of the errors in the KJV. Even the French translation below uses the verb to sing.

If you want to take exception to the verses in this lesson, consider that the first verse in the Responsive Reading is actually also slightly mis-translated.  Do you think God is really inviting us to challenge Him?  That verse is really a question (two questions), asking how dare we challenge Him?

Psalms 92:4

(BBE)  For you, O Lord, have made me glad through your work; I will have joy in the works of your hands.

(CEV)  because everything you do makes me happy, and I sing joyful songs.

(ESV)  For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

(FLS)  (92:5) Tu me réjouis par tes oeuvres, ô Éternel! Et je chante avec allégresse l'ouvrage de tes mains.

(GNB)  Your mighty deeds, O LORD, make me glad; because of what you have done, I sing for joy.

(GW)  You made me find joy in what you have done, O LORD. I will sing joyfully about the works of your hands.

(JPS)  (92:5) For Thou, LORD, hast made me glad through Thy work; I will exult in the works of Thy hands.

(KJV)  For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

(MKJV)  For You, Jehovah, have made Me glad with Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands.

I'd like to register my protest against the opening
citation (The Golden Text) for the upcoming
Bible Lesson, March 4,2012,  "Man", in which God
is referred to and addressed as  "you".
The Bible version utilized is not in accord
with the King James Version. These various versions
used are becoming so far off the mark that the idea
that Mary Baker Eddy had for correlative text is no
longer relevant.
For instance Psalm 92:4 in the King James Version
says nothing about singing, as does the unorthodox
version used. If the Bible Lesson committee members
had wanted to employ the idea of singing which would
then tie in with the last verse in the Responsive
Reading, they really had to look no farther than the
first verse in Psalm 92,

"1.   It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord,
and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:"

Instead they employed a disjointed verse from
an unorthodox version for Psalm 92, verse 4, which
refers to singing for joy, but addresses our heavenly
Father-Mother as "you".
A little thinking enables us to understand that
Mary Baker Eddy, by God's own dictation to her,
defines "You", in the negative in the chapter,
"Glossary" of the Christian Science textbook,
"Science and Health with Key To The Scriptures".
On page 599:3, she writes,
"You. "As applied to corporeality, a mortal; finity."
Clearly then, "you" is not an appropriate way to
address the most High.
Over ninety five percent of the Bible
verses in the Christian Science textbook are from
the King James Version. Many of the various
new Bible versions are different enough from the
King James Version that one cannot expect to
really have "correlative passages from our
denominational textbook" fit as announced in the
note approved by Mary Baker Eddy that is read in
church services before beginning the Lesson-
Sermon. Will the next step be to drop the note?
Will the next step be to have Bible verses from
other versions within the Bible Lesson itself,
thereby requiring those who wish to follow the
Lesson Sermon during the week to buy the full
text and drop the use of the books?
It is getting very far from the Leader's original
vision. It is distressing that there are those who
have no problem following paths never intended and
that muddy the message and the Science itself.
Thankfully, there are those who are willing to keep
thinking.

Sincerely,
Paula
